AI Access Assistant — Starter Template

See how an AI chatbot can live inside a Microsoft Access application. This starter template demonstrates the basic connection between an Access form and an AI model—without claiming to be a complete database-aware assistant.

A practical starting point—not a finished product

Use this proof of concept to explore the interaction pattern, then decide what your own Access application needs. It is intended for learning and experimentation, not as a ready-to-deploy business system.

02

Connect through an API

Build from the example

Use the template as a learning base for future integrations you design and test.

What it can—and cannot—do

The model does not automatically know what is stored in your database. The application must explicitly provide information or implement tools that let the model access it.

Included in this proof of concept

  • A basic chatbot experience in Microsoft Access
  • An example of sending a prompt to an AI service
  • Displaying the model’s response in the application

Not included automatically

  • Reading or searching Access tables on its own
  • Creating, editing, or deleting database records
  • Safely generating and executing SQL
  • Production security, permissions, or business workflow automation

These capabilities require additional development, testing, and access controls.

What you need

  • Microsoft Access on a supported Windows computer
  • An AI service account and your own API key
  • Internet access for API requests
  • Basic familiarity with Access forms and VBA to adapt the example

Security matters

Review the code before use. Keep API keys secret and do not distribute a database containing a production key. Avoid sending confidential or personal data to an AI service unless your service and data-handling requirements allow it.
